At our house it's not only the ceiling fan bot several box type fans that are used to help keep us cool when it gets hot out like in the low 70's or higher.

Ceiling Fan
We never had one growing up but one of the first things we did when we got our house we now live in was put a ceiling fan in the living room area of the house. I've heard that ceiling fans collect more dust when in use than if they are left off - our fan gets dirty. It is used to circulate air all summer long, day and night and sometimes even in the winter. It also makes for entertaining babies.
