Mighty God

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (ESV)

The second title or name in Isaiah 9:6 is Mighty God. When we think of Jesus at Christmas time we usually think of a tiny baby and yet in that tiny shell of a human being resided our Mighty God. The Gospel of John reminds us that Jesus while he was with God was also God and that through Him and by Him were all things created but there's more reason than that to think of Him as Mighty.

Matthew Henry says this in his commentary He is the mighty God-God, the mighty One. As he has wisdom, so he has strength, to go through with his undertaking: he is able to save to the utmost; and such is the work of the Mediator that no less a power than that of the mighty God could accomplish it.

      Dear Lord, Thank you
  • For the mightiness of Jesus
