Computer Security Day

     I remember my first computer – a Commodore Vic 20 – the next one was a Commodore 64 and then a 128 and then a PC. With my first computers I never had to worry about security – they were never on the Internet. They couldn't be. Today they are on all the time. Today is Computer Security Day. IS your computer secure? Are you thankful for those who work to help make it secure?

National Day of Listening Day

     Today is either Black Friday or National Day of Listening Day or both. What a contrast these two can be – Black Friday is often associated with pushing and shoving which represents to me very little patience. Taking time to listen, on the other hand, takes patience. Are you one who takes time to listen, are you thankful for those who take time to listen to you?

Thanksgiving Day

     Today is the day. Today is Thanksgiving. Can we also be thankful for Thanksgiving?

Pins and Needles Day

     I've heard the expression “On pins and Needles.” Today is Pins and Needles Day. Have you ever taken time to be thankful for pin and needles? If you've ever done sewing you know just how valuable these are. Let's use today to be thankful for pins and needles.

National Cake Day

     Today is National Cake Day. Have you had cake today? Have you had it recently? At our house we had a large cake just days ago as we celebrated a birthday. My favorite cake is a spice cake covered with cream cheese frosting. There are many types of cakes for which we can be thankful for so today lets be thankful for cake.

National Parfait Day

     Today is National Parfait Day however, I don't think I'll be having one today. The two parfaits that first come to mind is the yogurt parfait I can find at McDonalds – well liked at our house – and the peanut buster parfait found at Dairy Queen – a favorite of my wife. Let's use today to be thankful for these treas.

David's Day

     Well, I read that it was Mother Goose Day but today is David's 4th birthday along with his cousins 3rd.  Today I would like to take time to say thank you for David, and for each of my kids.

Dr. Who Day

     It is Dr. Who Day. I remember watching this show a lot growing up. It was and still is one of my favorite Science fiction shows. I only wish they would give God the glory instead of evolution :( Never the less, I am thankful for being able to watch this show.

World Television Day

     Today is World Television Day. I can always remember a television around. I can remember when you had less than 13 channels to choose from and you had to walk over to the Television to do so. I can also remember when all we had was black and white, the TV's ran on vacuum tubes and took up lots of space. I now have one that is 42” and hangs on the wall. While there is much on Television that is not good, there is much good that can be gotten from them so for that let us be thankful today.

Name Your P.C Day

     Does your computer have a name? Today is Name Your P.C Day. I'm not sure if I'll come up with a name for my computer and you may note come up with one either but even without a name, a computer is something to be thankful for.

World Toilet Day

     How often do you think of your toilet? - They can get dirty, they can get smelly, they can cause problems but what would you do with out it. I recently had to tear out one of ours to replace the floor under it and then fix the toilet itself. So far, so good. Today is World Toilet Day. Let's use today to be thankful for toilets.

Mickey Mouse's Day

     I believe He was introduced to us in a short animated clip called “Steam Boat Willie.” Hew was and is a mouse named Mickey. Today is Mickey Mouse's Day Have you ever enjoyed watching a Mickey Mouse cartoon or Mickey Mouse Club show? Today is a day to be thankful for Mickey Mouse.

Homemade Bread Day

     Today is Homemade Bread Day. Growing up, I don't remember much for home made bread around the house but I do remember getting it at Grandma's house, along with fresh homemade jams. Now days, I get to have homemade bread on a regular basis. Depending on the kind that is being made and when it is made, a loaf at our house can disappear fast. Today, let's be thankful for homemade bread.

National Button Day

     Have you ever pushed a button? I could say I have pushed a lot of buttons, the ones on this keyboard that are called keys. Today is National Button Day and while we could think of all the buttons that get pushed, we can also think of all the buttons that we button. Like the ones on the shirt or pants or dress or wherever they may be. Today, let's be thankful for all these buttons.

America Recycles Day

     Today is America Recycles Day. A day to think about recycling here in America. At our house we try to recycle plastic, metal and glass. There are many things that we can recycle – so they can be used again. Have you ever thought of being thankful that you can recycle? Today is the day to be thankful for recycling.

National Pickle Day

     We used to get a laugh out of a book about pickle pizza. We have eaten what we call a pickle pizza – a cheeseburger pizza with pickles on it – Today is National Pickle Day. Well, I can say I do not like all pickles, I do like some pickles. Today, let's take time to be thankful for pickles.

World Kindness Day

     Today is World Kindness Day Not only can we use today to remember to show kindness to those around us but we can use today to be thankful for those who have shown kindness to us. If you are like me it shouldn't take long to think of someone who has shown you kindness.

Chicken Soup For The Soul Day

     There is a Far Side cartoon I like. There is a chicken feeding chicken soup to a sick chicken in bed. The caption sys that it is good for you and it si nobody we know. I've always heard chicken soup is good for you. Today is Chicken Soup For The Soul Day. There are a series of boos out, and I believe we have at least one or have had one. There are short stories, and devotions to help encourage and lift up the soul. Today, let's be thankful for the stories that encourage us.

Veterans Day

     Today is Veterans Day. I'm not sure that I need to say much more. Both my wife and my self have veterans in our family line so today we say thank you to and for our veterans.

International Tongue Twister Day

     Today is International Tongue Twister Day. Some times you just have to be thankful for the fun that you can have with words. One of my favorite books is Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. I got to be pretty fast at reading it to my kids. Not only that, one year we were at a get together and they had some tongue twister races and one of my kids hollered out that he is good before we got started. We were given a little bit of time to look it over and half way through they said go. - I did win, and it was fun. So today, let's be thankful for tongue twisters.

Parade Day

     Today is Parade Day yet I'm not aware of any parades today. I enjoy going to a parade and try to make it to the 4^th of July parade every year. I can also remember enjoying watching parades on Thanksgiving and New Years. Do you enjoy a parade? Are you thankful for them?

X-ray Day

     I recently had several X-rays taken to help the dentist see the holes in my teeth. This is the only way I have had them but I know many have had them for other reasons. X-rays are a useful tool for helping determine problems where one can't normally see. Let's use this day to be thankful for them for today is X-ray Day.

Hug a Bear Day

     How many kinds of bears can you think of? Black bears, brown bears, polar bears, grizzly bears, teddy bears..... Today is Hug A Bear Day. While I'm not likely to hug most bears, I might hug a teddy bear. Let's use today to be thankful for bears.

Basket Ball Day

     If you put a ball and a basket together do you get basket ball? Today is Basket Ball Day. I know many who like to play this game, and at times I like to play too but I'm not very good. That may be why I don't play often. Playing basket ball can be a fun way to pass time and exercise at the same time. Today, let's be thankful for basket ball.

Election Day

     In America, the first Tuesday after the first Monday is election day so today is that day. How often do we take the time to vote on elections day? How often do we thank God that we have the ability to elect people? Today would be a good day to be thankful for the ability to vote.

National Candy Day

     A few days ago the kids loaded up with candy, today is National Candy Day. While I am less and less of a candy eater, candy is a wonderful treat and works great at times to help motivate ids to get things done ot helps to make someone feel better, etc. Today, lets be thankful for candy.

Sandwich Day

     I can not begin to count how many sandwiches I have eaten or how many different types of sandwiches I have eaten. Today is Sandwich Day but today I'm not eating a sandwich or at least I don't think I will be. The day is still early. Are you thankful for sandwiches? Let's use today to be thankful for sandwiches.

Cookie Monster Day

     Today is Cookie Monster Day. If you have ever seen Sesame Street you have seen Cookie Monster and if You have seen cookie monster you probably know how he likes to eat cookies. Do you like to eat cookies? I do. Are you thankful for cookies? I am. Let's use Cookie Monster Day to be thankful for cookies.

All Saints Day

     Today is All Saints Day. What does it men to be a saint. In the Bible we read the Christians are saints. There ares one that declare only certain people to be saints depending on what they have done in history. For others, a saint is one who comes to the rescue. Which ever way you choose to look at what a saint is, lets be thankful for them all.
