Work

Today I am breaking from routine to say Thank You for work.  This past week I was offered and have accepted what in some ways is a promotion at work.  A job opening was recently announced, I put in for it and received it and for that I am thankful.

Sense Of Smell Day

How many wonderful aromas can you think of that you enjoy smelling. I can think of many but without our sense of smell we would never be able to enjoy a rose, fresh spring rain, freshed baked bread, and the list could go on and on. Let's be thankful for our sense of smell.

It's a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. That's right, trees an a tree is something we all need. Do you enjoy trees? In the spring as they are blooming, in the summer when they give us shade, in the fall when they fill us with color. Thank you Lord for trees.

DNA Day

I'm currently reading a book entitled “Genetic Entropy and the Mystery of The Genome.” It talks much about our DNA which makes the genome. I have another book called “Signature in The Cell” which I have yet to read but it is also about the cell with it's marvelous DNA. DNA is a nut shell is the coded instructions for creating a cell and all the machinery within it. It is amazing. It is something to be thankful for.

Home Run Day

If you like to play baseball or softball or the like then chances are you like the idea of being able to hot a home run. Some are better than others when it comes to hitting a home tun and I must admit I'm nit one of those but I do enjoy having a chance to play. So today is the day to be thankful for not only getting a home tun but for being able to play the game.

Earth Day

It is where we live. No, I don't mean the house, city, country where we live but the planet. Today is Earth Day and while many people get carried away with the day as if to worship the earth, The earth is something to take care and to be thankful for. Yes, it is suffering because of man's sin but someday it will be made new. For now we can still be thankful for what God has given us.

Kindergarten Day

I'm not sure if I can remember how long it has been since I was in kindergarten. I do remember having the same teacher two years in a row. Not because I flunked kindergarten but because the teacher switched to teaching first grade. I do remember some things from back than and I did enjoy it so today I can say than you for kindergarten, can you?

National Library Day

Do you have a Library where you live? We have one close by that we visit quite often for both books and movies. And when we can't find what we want we can go on-line and often fins what we want and have it delivered to the library. Of course a library can offer more than books and movies. It also has a meeting room, computers, and host various activities and music groups.

Today, let's be thankful for libraries

McDonald's Day

I worked there for over 6 years and really enjoyed it. I still enjoy going back for the food and so do my kids. I know there tends to be a lot of negative publicity about fast food places but I think most if has to do with laziness and passing the buck. As for me I'm thankful for McDonalds, for the food and the job's they provide.

Dictionary Day

I've been told as you may have been, if you don't know how to spell something to look it up in the dictionary. The only problem with that is you need to know how to spell a word before you can look it up to find out how to spell it... Lately the dictionary at our house has been used, not to learn how to spell a word but how to pronounce a word so we know who's right. That is the English dictionary.

I also have Greek, Hebrew and Bible dictionaries as well for which I use not to find out how to spell a word or even how to pronounce a word but for what a dictionary is for – to find out what a word means.

Are you thankful for these books and the work that has gone into making them.

Scrabble Day

One of my favorite games is Scrabble. When I last bought the game I went for the super version which is 21 squares square instead of 15 with 200 tiles instead of 100 and has quadruple squares on the board. I even went for a new scrabble dictionary and a book on playing the game. Only problem is nobody else in the family likes to play. None the less I still enjoy the game and for it I am thankful. What games are you thankful for?

Ascension Day

Acts 1:6-9 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Today is Ascension Day, a day to remember Jesus' return to Heaven to prepare a place for each of His own, a day to be thankful for.

Zoo Day

Today is Zoo Day. How many Zoos have you visited? I think I can remember seeing 4, maybe more. The earliest remembrance of a zoo was one in Madison Wisconsin. I remember being able to put a quarter into a machine and watch it mold a plastic animal to bring home.

Zoos are a fun place to go to see animals from around the world and even from close by that one doesn't normally have a chance to see. So, today we say thank for the zoos we can enjoy and for those that take care of the animals.

World Health Day

Today is World Health Day and if you live somewhere in the World, chances are you do, today is a day to think about world health and a day to be thankful for our health. Are we always 100% healthy? Probably not. As I right this I have a nasty cold, possible sore throat, a thyroid that is under active, a kidney stone that for the moment is not a problem, doc says I'm over weight, … But otherwise I can be thankful for my health and for those that help when it isn't perfect.

Teflon Day

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene that finds numerous applications. The best known brand name of PTFE is Teflon by DuPont Co. We usually use it to keep things from sticking to cookware in the kitchen but I have learned that it can also be used as a lubricant and a protective coating.

Are you thankful for Teflon's non stick ability? I guess we can still wonder how they get it to stick to cookware....

Vitamin C Day

Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants that block some of the damage caused by free radicals. It is also needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It can even reduce the symptoms related to colds and possibly shorten the time it takes your body to fight it off. Another nice thing about Vitamin C is where it can be found, in delicious tasting fruit.

Today, let's be thankful for Vitamin C

National Fun Day

I think most of us enjoy having fun. Of course what is fun varies from person to person. For a 5 year old girl playing with dolls may be lots of fun, for a three year old boy racing a toy dump truck around may be fun but doing a logic problem may not be but it is for me. Today is National Fun Day and with that thought let be thankful today for the things we find fun.
