Camcorder Day

It's Camcorder Day. I've never owned one of these gadgets but I've been around them. They can still be bought by I still have no desire to get one. We do have something that works in limited way like a camcorder and that's our digital camera. With it we can not only take pictures but we can record ”movies” of the kids doings to remember years later or to share with friends and family. Who knows, maybe someday I'll end up with one. In the mean time, let's be thankful for the technology that allows for the recording of “movies” to be remembered.

Get To Know Your Costumers Day

It's been over 20 years since I worked at McDonald's. Something I used to do there that is rather difficult to do at my current job is getting to know your costumers, in person. Customers are important to any business and while not every customer may be one to get to know, I'm thankful for them – are you?

Religious Freedom Day

There are some freedoms we have that we tend to take for granted. Are religious freedom is one of them. Here in America we, at least for the time being, still have the freedom to openly worship the One True God and His Son Jesus Christ. For those of us that have that freedom, are you thankful?

Humanitarian Day

Someone who is concerned for or helps to improve the welfare and happiness of people may be called a humanitarian. Today is a day to recognize those people.

We know from scripture that God is concerned about our well being and He does look after us but not all people are. Lets be thankful for those who are.

Who's thankful for working harder? Today is Work Harder Day, a day for working harder.      What crawls around on all fours and goes moo, a crazy dad giving rides on his back or a cow?

Today is milk day and while there are people who can't have milk or milk products, there is much to be thankful for when it comes to milk. Yogurt, cheese, ice cream, are just a few things beyond the cold glass full along side some fresh made cookies. Yes, I'm thankful for milk. Are you?

Peculiar People Day

Have you ever been thankful for people who are just a little odd? Today is Peculiar People Day. I don't know that I have ever been called peculiar, but I know I have been called weird and strange and crazy and odd, etc. Of course I use to say I'm normal and everybody else is, well, you get the idea.

I'm thankful that people are different and yes, sometimes a little peculiar. For the variety makes life enjoyable. Would you be thankful to God for such people? Or would you find that a bit peculiar?

Static Electricity Day

It's a lot of fun. Drag your feet around on a carpet and then walk up to someone and ZAP! Static Electricity can be a lot of fun, it can smart a bit when your not ready for it and it can cause some major issues if you fail to ground yourself out before working around sensitive computer boards or flammable liquids.
Electricity is such a valuable resource that we often take it for granted – until it's gone. Let's say thank You To God for His provision of electricity for us to use – and have fun with – ZAP!

Midwife's Day

In the book of Exodus we are told they feared God. They were the midwives.

Today is Midwife's Day and I can say I am thankful for midwives, one in particular as we have used her for our last three births and what a wonderful experience it has been to have our last three children at home.

So, I would like to say thank you for midwives and the work they do.

I'm Not Going To Take It Anymore Day

We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. - 1 Thessalonians 5:14 (NASB)

Today is I'm Not Going To Take It Any More Day. How many of us have ever come to the point where we've said that or something like it. Well I'm sure there are many times when we “shouldn't take it any more” we need to exercise patience.

Can you imagine what life would be like if God were to say I'm not going to take it any more? He has promised a day when He won't take it any more but for now, we can be thankful that He is patient with us, and does “take it,” allowing us time to grow, to get it right.

Cuddle Day

It's Cuddle Up Day time to cuddle up with a good book and ignore the world. Actually, when I think of cuddling, I think of being able to cuddle up with the ones I love. Of course, to be able to do that we need loved ones around and the arms to wrap around them.

Today is a great day to thank God for those whom He has given you to cuddle up to.

I don't know about you but I like beans and today is of all days, bean day. Some of my favorites are baked beans, calico beans and a green bean casserole. There are time when I think I could eat beans everyday at every meal but.......

I also know of people who like things like coffee beans and coco beans and the products that can be made from them.

Let's be thankful for beans and the wide variety of beans God has given us to enjoy.

Trivia Day

I can remember a time when I wanted a game called Trivial Pursuit. I do not know what ever happened to that game but it was full of trivial questions, question that really didn't matter. I still have at least three trivia type games in the house somewhere. Today is Trivia day.

We may think of trivia as being unimportant and there is much in our lives that may be considered trivial like the color of socks we wear but I wonder if any part of our lives is trivial to God. We may think that what we eat is trivial to God when there are big things to consider like countries going to war but God cares for each and everyone of us and I can't say that any part of our lives are trivial to God.

Let's be thankful for a God who cares for even the trivial things in our lives.

Drinking Straws

It's Drinking Straw Day, the day for the slender, hollow, sometimes bendable, plastic tube for blowing bubbles in your milk. Well, maybe not, but my youngest kids like to do it. I've even known of kids using straws to shoot spit balls or at least the straws wrapper at someone.

Straws, as much fun as they can provide, are usually meant for drinking and while modern straws were patented in 1888 by Marvin C. Stone and were at first made of paper, they have been around for thousands of years.

Let's take time today to be thankful for drinking straws and their ease of use.

Buffet Day

Today is National Buffet Day. When it comes to eating, buffet make for a nice option when you like to eat a wide variety. Over the years I've enjoyed a variety of buffets from a variety of places.

As we enjoy the foods from a buffet, how often do we think of those who have but one choice of food if any. Do we ever wish “Why can't I only eat a blah tasting mush for every meal.”

Let's use today as a reminder to be thankful for the variety of foods we can eat everyday.

NEW YEARS DAY

It's New Years Day today and that gives us reason to be thankful. Often times, the focus of New Years Day is on moving forward with fresh new goals and resolutions for the year to come, goals and resolutions that often don't make it pass the first month, sometimes the first day.

While goals and resolutions are important as we look forward to the new year. We need to remember to be thankful that we have new year, that we have a chance to start over. As the angelic choir sang in the Veggie Tales version of Jonah, “God is a God of second chances.” Let's be thankful for those second chances, for those new beginnings.
